Benjamin Franklin Bridgman was born about 1813, in Wythe County, Virginia, the son of William Bridgman and Mariam Brown.
William Bridgman moved his family to Campbell County, Tennessee between 1813 and 1815. Benjamin grew up in Campbell County.
Benjamin married Martha (last name unknown), who was born about 1820. They settled in Marion County, Tennessee, just prior to 1840. Census indicates they ran a dry goods store there for a time.
The 1850 Marion County, Tennessee census, shows B.F. Bridgman, 38, farmer, real estate valued at $600; Martha, 27; Marian, 4; and Josephine, 1 year old.
Benjamin died prior to 1880, in Marion County. The 1880 Marion County census, Jasper Township, shows M. A. Bridgeman, 63, widowed; and Benjamin F., son, 19, laborer. Living near-by is Martha's other son, John Bridgeman and his family. The census shows John B. Bridgeman, 22, farmer; Cintha E., wife, 22, born in Georgia, father and mother both born in North Carolina; and Luther S., son, 2, born in Tennessee.
