Binks Hess was born January 4, 1850, in Independence County, Arkansas. He was the son of William Hess and Permelia Sutton.
The 1850 Independence County census, Wallace Township, shows Binks, 5-months old, with his parents, William and Permelia Hess, and his siblings, Thomas M., 16, and Henry B., 9 years old. His grandmother, Nancy Hess, age 56, was living with the family.
Binks' mother, Permelia, died between 1855 and 1859, in Independence County. Binks' father married Angeline Roberts on June 17, 1860, in Independence County.
The 1860 Independence County census, Washington Township, shows Binks, age 10, with his father William, age 46; his step-mother Angeline, age 18; and his siblings Thomas, 23; Lucy, 8; and Fanny, 6 years old. Living with the family were his grandmother, Nancy Hess, age 62, and his cousins William Hess, 11, and Cyntha Hess, 13, who were the children of Binks deceased uncle Thomas W. Hess.
Binks' father, William, signed his will on September 3, 1861, just sixteen days before he died. Binks was named in his father's will.
The 1870 Independence County census shows Binks living with his brother Thomas M. Hess, who by that time had married their step-mother, Angeline Roberts Hess. The census shows Thomas M. Hess, 34; Angeline, 26; Riley J., 7; Caledonia, 2; Baby, 3 months old; William Hess, 21 (Thomas' cousin, son of his dead uncle Thomas W. Hess); Binks Hess, 20; Lucinda R. Hess, 11; and Fannie F. Hess, 15 years old.
Binks married Laura E. Catterton (Katerton) about 1873. Laura Katerton was born October 11, 1858, in Arkansas.
The 1880 Stone County, Arkansas, census shows Binks, Laura and their four-year old daughter, Mary A., living in Wallace Township.
The 1900 Stone County, Wallace Township census shows Binks Hess, born January 1850, 50, married 26 years, a farmer; Laura, wife, born November 1858, 41, married 26 years, had given birth to 5 children, 3 children were still living; Lurie, daughter, born March 1881, 19; and Herman, son, born Oct 1894, 5 years old. Binks' family was living near his brother, Thomas M. Hess and his family.
The 1910 Stone County, Wallace Township census shows Binks Hess, 60; Laura E., wife, 52; Herman N., son, 15; Laura E. Warron, daughter, 29, widow, had givern birth to 1 child, who was still living; Lola S. Warron, granddaughter, 2 years old; and Coleman E. Sutton, hired man, 27, widowed, a farm laborer. Binks' brother Thomas M. Hess and his family were living next to Binks.
Laura died September 22, 1919, and is buried in St. James Cemetery, in Stone County. Binks died December 1, 1931, and is also buried in St. James Cemetery.

1. Mary Angeline "Mollie" Hess was born Nov 29, 1875, in Stone Co, AR. She married James Mozie Case on Sept 6, 1894, in Independence Co, AR. James Case was born Mar 20, 1874, in AR. The family lived in Stone Co, AR. James died July 12, 1917, in Stone Co and is buried in Marcella Cem, in Stone Co. Mollie died Oct 12, 1957, in Stone Co and is also buried in Marcella Cem. 2. Laura Ellen Hess was born Mar 29, 1881, in Stone Co, AR. She married Albert Felix Warren on Dec 20, 1906, in Independence Co, AR. Felix Warren was born Apr 28, 1877, in AR. The couple divorced prior to 1910. Laura appears on the 1910 Stone Co census with her parents and her two-year old daughter. Felix appears on the 1910 Stone Co census with his parents. Laura died Oct 28, 1912, in Stone Co and is buried in St. James Cem, in Stone Co. One child: Lela S. Warren, b. Oct 1907, Stone Co
3. Clarance Hess was born about 1883, in Stone Co, AR. He died before 1900, in Stone Co.
4. Herman Neil Hess was born Oct 18, 1894, in Stone Co, AR. He married Nellie Pruitt on Oct 12, 1919, in Stone Co. Nellie Pruitt was born Mar 15, 1896, in AR. The family lived in Stone Co, AR. Nellie died May 26, 1968, and is buried in Oaklawn Cem, at Batesville, in Independence Co. Herman died June 13, 1980, and is also buried in Oaklawn Cem. Children included: (1) Melba L. Hess, b. 1923; (2) Mary Elizabeth Hess, b. 1927; and (3) Herman Neil Hess, Jr., b. 1937
