Matthew Josiah Sims was born July 22, 1868, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the son of Hartwell Ebenezer John Shields Sims and Edith Malinda Caroline Youngblood.
Matthew married Camilla Ellender Davis about 1891, in Wayne County. Camilla Davis was born August 23, 1873, in Wayne County, the daughter of Joseph Noah Davis and Nancy Jane Copeland.
Matthew was a teacher and a farmer. He also engaged in saw-milling. Matthew and Camilla raised their family in Wayne County.
Matthew died December 2, 1951, at Knoxville, Tennessee. Camilla died August 10, 1958, at Knoxville. They are buried in Lynnhurst Cemetery at Knoxville.
