Charles Leonard L. Jones was born October 16, 1892, at El Paso, in White County, Arkansas. He was the son of Dockery Berry Giddens Jones and his third wife, Samantha Paralee Edwards.
Leonard's family moved to Van Buren County, Arkansas, prior to 1900. They settled in Culpepper Township, where Leonard grew up.
He was listed as Charles, age 8, on the 1900 Van Buren County census. After that time records list him as Leonard. Around 1913, the family moved to Oklahoma and settled in Haskell County.
Leonard registered for the WWI draft on August 5, 1917, in Haskell County, Oklahoma. His WWI Draft Registration shows Leonard L. Jones of Keota, Oklahoma, born October 16, 1892, at El Paso, Arkansas. His occupation was Telephone Lineman and he worked for the Keota Telephone Company. He was single, medium height and medium build, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Leonard served in the U. S. Army Signal Corps during World War I.
Leonard married Lucille B. (maiden name unknown) about 1918, in Oklahoma. Lucille was born November 2, 1897, in Oklahoma. Lucille was Cherokee Indian.
The 1930 Muskogee County, Oklahoma, Boynton Town census shows the family living on Third Street. The census shows Leonard L. Jones, 37, married at age 25, a pipe line laborer; Lucille, wife, 32, married at age 20, Cherokee; Clyde, son, 11 and Merrill, son, 8 years old.
The 1940 Muskogee County census shows Leonard Jones, 47, owned his farm, and Lucille, wife, 42, living in Brewer Township, outside Braggs Town.
Leonard was a retired oil field worker from Pure Oil Company in Bristow.
Leonard died at Wagoner, Oklahoma on July 11, 1979 and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery at Wagoner. Lucille died at Wagoner on January 29, 1991 and is buried beside her husband.
