Carra A. Hinkle was born June 5, 1869, in Conway County, Arkansas, the daughter of Judge John Hinkle and Hannah Almena Cargile.
The 1870 Conway County census shows the family living at or near Springfield. The census shows John Hinkle, 32, a farmer; Almena, 18 and Carra, 11 months old, born in June.
Carra's mother died October 6, 1872, when Carra was about three years old. Carra's father remarried in 1873 and began a second family.
The 1880 Conway County census shows ten year old Carra living with her grandparents, Robert L. and Hannah Cargile, in the Town of Springfield. The census shows R. L. Cargile, 66, a retired merchant; Hanah, 56, wife; Sarah A., 35, daughter, single; Martha C., 16, daughter; Katie D., 13, daughter and Cora Hincle, 10, granddaughter. Carra's grandmother, Hannah Cargile, ran a boarding house at Springfield and there were several individuals listed on the census as boarders. Carra's father and his second family were living at Morrilton, in Conway County.
Carra married Robert David "Bob" Earl on March 25, 1891, in Conway County. Bob Earl was born August 13, 1863, in North Carolina, the youngest of six sons of Dr. John William Earl and Martha Carter Pope. John Earl was born October 7, 1816, in Warren County, North Carolina and died November 18, 1888, in Conway County, Arkansas. Martha Pope was born March 20, 1822, in Edgecomb County, North Carolina and died July 22, 1892, in Conway County. John and Martha married on August 11, 1846, in Edgecomb County, North Carolina. They are buried in Elmwood Cemetery at Morrilton, in Conway County. John and Martha moved their family to Conway County about 1871. Dr. Earl started the first drug store in Conway County in 1873 at Morrilton.
In 1905, Bob and Carra purchased a large house at 503 West Church Street in Morrilton, where they lived for many years and raised their family.
Bob and three of his brothers opened a general store at Morrilton, in Conway County, in 1889. The store was called Earl Brothers & Company. Bob eventually bought out his brothers and operated the store for over 40 years.
In 1926, Bob and his son Robert, Jr. opened and operated the Ford Motor Company in Morrilton.
Bob died at Morrilton on October 23, 1942. Carra died there on January 3, 1948. They are buried in Elmwood Cemetery at Morrilton.
