Dortha Elizabeth Roberts was born April 6, 1884, in Stone County, Arkansas, the daughter of Archibald Roberts and Josephine Victoria Cole.
The 1900 Stone County census, Sylamore Township, shows 16 year old Dortha Elizabeth living at home with her mother, Josephine Roberts, 38, widow and her brother, William H., 18 years old.
Dortha married James Oliver Perry Sutterfield on June 11, 1907, in Stone County. Oliver Sutterfield was born March 23, 1881, in Searcy County, Arkansas. He was the son of James Henry Sutterfield (b. 1850; d. 1925) and Mahilda Ann Harness (b. 1850; d. 1900).
The 1920 Jackson County, Arkansas census, Bird Township, shows Josephine living with her daughter Dorothy and her family. The census shows Oliver Sutterfield, 37, a farmer; Dorothy, wife, 36; Aughtsie (her name was Augustie), daughter, 14; Maudie, daughter, 11; Virgil, son, 6; Irvin, son, 4 and Victoria Roberts, mother-in-law, 56, widow.
Oliver and Dortha moved to California. Dortha died August 14, 1951 and Oliver died March 9, 1956, in Orange County, California.
