Eletha Jane Pierce was born in 1843, in Tennessee, the daughter of Lewis B. Pierce and Elizabeth "Betsy" Ann Stanfield.
Eletha married John M. Turner in 1864, in Tennessee. John Turner was born May 1845, the son of William Turner and Mary Ann (last name unknown). Census records indicate William Turner was born about 1816, in North Carolina and Mary Ann was born about 1821, in North Carolina. They appear with their children on the 1850 Hardin County, Tennessee, census. John is listed on that census as 4 years old.
John enlisted in the Union Army on December 28, 1863, at Savannah, Tennessee. He served as a private in Co. D of the 2nd Tennessee Mounted Infantry. He was mustered out on February 1, 1865.
John and Eletha moved to Arkansas about 1875. They settled in Izard (Stone) County, Arkansas. The 1880 Izard County, White River Township census shows John, a farmer, 35; Letha, 37; Josephine, 8; James, 6; and Elizabeth, 3 years old.
Eletha died prior to 1900. The 1900 Stone County census shows John a widower, living with his son and daughter-in-law, James and Nancy Turner, in Sylamore Township.
