Catherine Elizabeth Abel was born 1813, in Tennessee. She was the daughter of Jonathan Abel and Catherine Cleaver.
The Abel family moved from Virginia to Tennessee about 1813 and settled in Greene County. Elizabeth was born that same year, probably in Greene County.
Elizabeth married William Anderson Ingle on March 27, 1831, in Greene County. William Ingle was born 1800, in Tennessee.
About 1835, the family moved to Johnson County, Indiana. The 1840 Johnson County census shows William Ingle, a male 40-49; two males under 5; one female (Elizabeth) 20-29; and two females 5-9 years of age.
About 1848, the family moved to Keokuk County, Iowa, where they would remain. The 1850 Keokuk County census shows Wm Ingle, 49, blacksmith; Elizabeth, 38; Mary, 19; Matilda, 16; John H., 14; Westley, 9; Anderson, 6; Louisa, 3 and a son, Cass, 1 year old.
William Ingle died in Keokuk County, Iowa, prior to 1860.
The 1860 Keokuk County census, Jackson Township, listed Elizabeth's son, John as head of household. The census shows J. H. Engle, 25, day laborer; Catharin, 47; Michael W., 19; Joseph A., 16; Louisa, 13; Louis C., 11; and Josephus W., 2 years of age. Joseph W., age 2, was the son of John H., whose wife had died during or shortly after childbirth. Living near-by was Elizabeth's brother, Joseph Abel and his family. The census shows Joseph Able, 31, farmer; Christiann, 31; Rufus, 9; Columbus, 5 and son, Frances M., 2 years old.
The 1870 Keokuk County, Jackson Township, census shows Elizabeth Ingle, 58, $100 personal property; J. A., 25, farm laborer; and Louis, 21, farm laborer. Living a short distance away was Elizabeth's son John and his family. The census shows Jno H. Ingle, 33, farmer, $250 real property, $200 personal property; Elizabeth, 27; Wm, 12; son J. I., 8; and Hannah, 4 years old.
The 1880 Keokuk County census, Lancaster Township, shows Louis Ingle, 30, single, laborer; and Lizabeth, 68, mother, widow. They were living next to Elizabeth's sister, Sarah Paxton and her family.
We believe that Elizabeth died before 1885, in Keokuk County. She was not listed on the 1885 Iowa Special Census.
