Eliza Ann Crow

Eliza Ann Crow was born about 1830, in Chatham County, North Carolina, according to census.  She was the daughter of James Crow and Diana McClanahan.

Eliza appears on the 1830 Chatham County census as a female under the age of 5 years.  The 1900 census shows she was born April 1831.  This is incorrect, as she appeared on the 1830 census.   The 1840 Guilford County, North Carolina, census shows her as a female 5-9 years old.

Eliza married Green McDonald Parsons on February 7, 1849, at Greensboro, in Guilford County. Green Parsons was born June 13, 1815, in Guilford County, the son of James William Parsons (b. 1771; d. 1857) and Mary Fields (b. 1770; d. 1820).  Green was a miller and a farmer.

The 1850 Guilford County census shows Green Parsons, 35, miller, b. Guilford Co, NC; Eliza, 20, b. Chatham Co, NC and Mary G., 6 months old, b. Guilford Co, NC. 

Eliza is named in her father's will in 1859, to receive slaves and a share of the money derived from the sale of any items not disposed of in the will. The will states she has already been given property.

The 1860 Guilford County census shows Green Parsons, 46, farmer, $500 real property, $2500 personal property; Eliza, 32; Mary G., 11; James, 8; Charles, 5 and L, male, 1 year old.

We did not locate the family on the 1870 census. 

Green died prior to 1880, probably in Guilford or Randolph County, North Carolina.  We have been told Green died in 1887, but that is not correct.

  The 1880 Randolph County, North Carolina census shows Eliza Parsons, 46, widow; Charley, 17, son, worked in cotton mill and Sina B., 15, dau, worked in cotton mill.  Boarding with the family at the time was Sarah Hargrove, 28, single, worked in cotton mill.  

The 1900 Randolph County census shows James M. Parsons, b. Mar 1855, 45, single, farmer who owned his farm and Eliza, mother, b. Apr 1831, 69, widow, had given birth to 2 children, 2 children still living.

The 1910 Randolph County census shows James M. Parsons, 55, single, a farmer and Eliza, mother, 80, widow, had given birth to 5 children, 4 children were still living.

We believe Eliza died prior to 1920.
