Elizabeth Maxey was born about 1800, probably in Franklin County, Tennessee. She was the fifth of nine children born to Hail Maxey and Dicey Craighead.
Elizabeth's family moved to Georgia about 1801, settling in Oglethorpe County where Elizabeth grew up.
Elizabeth married William Baker DeGraffenreid on October 2, 1815, in Oglethorpe County. William DeGraffenreid was born February 13, 1796, in Halifax County, Virginia. He was the son of Vincent Monroe DeGraffenreid and Martha Green Thaxton. (Note: William's sister, Nancy Needham DeGraffenreid, married Elizabeth's eldest brother, William Maxey.)
Vincent DeGraffenreid was born 1763, in Lunenburg County, Virginia and died May 13, 1834, in Christian County, Kentucky. Martha Thaxton was born about 1771, in Virginia and died between 1851 and 1858, probably in Missouri. The DeGraffenreid family traces its roots back to the early 1600's in Bern, Switzerland, immigrating to America prior to 1700.
According to census, William and Elizabeth were in Tennessee soon after their marriage. Census indicates that most of their children were born in Tennessee between 1816 and 1825.
William and Elizabeth were in Christian County, Kentucky on the 1830 census. The census shows Will DeGraffenreid, a male 30-39 (b. 1791-1800), one male 10-14 (b. 1816-1820), two males 5-9 (b. 1821-1825), one female 30-39 (b. 1791-1800) and one female 5-9 (b. 1821-1825). Listed next to Will, were his parents. The census shows Vincent DeGraffenreid, a male 60-69 (b. 1761-1770), two males 20-29 (b. 1801-1810), one male 10-14 (b. 1816-1820), one female 50-59 (b. 1771-1780), one female 20-29 (b. 1801-1810) and one female 15-19 (b. 1811-1815).
Elizabeth was named in her father's will, which was signed 7 April 1845.
William B. DeGraffenreid died prior to 1850.
Some of the DeGraffenreid family moved to Texas prior to 1850. The 1850 Fannin County, Texas census shows son William B. Degraffmind, 27, teamster, $100 real property, born in TN; his mother, Elizabeth, 49, born in VA, and William W. Brown, 11, born in MO. Also living In Fannin County, at Bonham, was son James A. Degraffenreia, 27, teamster, $250 real property, born in TN; wife Alpha, 18, born in AR and son William H., 1, born in TX.
Elizabeth died about 1857, possibly in Texas.

The family appeared on the 1850 Jasper Co, MO census. Elizabeth died about 1851, in Jasper Co, MO. Vincent married his 1st cousin, Adeline DeGraffenreid on Aug 19, 1852, in Jasper Co, MO. Adeline was born about 1831, in KY, the daughter of John DeGraffenreid and Margaret Brent. (Note: John and William Baker DeGraffenreid were brothers.) Vincent and Adeline both died between about 1853 and 1858, in Jasper Co, MO. Children by Elizabeth: (1) Richard Calvin DeGraffenreid, b. abt 1838, Platte Co, MO; (2) Mary Jane DeGraffenreid, b. abt 1842, Platte Co, MO; m. 2. Unknown Daughter DeGraffenreid was born about 1820, in TN. She appeared on the 1830 census as a female 5-9 years old.
3. James A. DeGraffenreid was born about 1823, in TN. He married Sarah Alpha ____ about 1848. Alpha was born about 1832, in AR. James died in 1857, in Grayson Co, TX. They were living in Bonham on the 1850 Fannin Co, TX census. Children: (1) William Harrison DeGraffenreid, b. 1849, Fannin Co, TX; d. 1897, Alfalfa Co, OK and (2) Elizabeth J. "Lizzie" DeGraffenreid, b. 1851, Fannin Co, TX; m. Joseph P. Jones on July 5, 1866, Grayson Co, TX
4. William Baker DeGraffenreid, Jr. was born about 1823, in TN. The 1850 Fannin Co,TX census shows William, 27, a teamster; his mother, Elizabeth, 49 and William W. Brown, age 11.
