Benjamin Elliott Bridgman

Benjamin Elliott Bridgman was born January 9, 1847, in Campbell County, Tennessee, the son of Sampson David Bridgman and Mary A. H. Queener.

The 1850 and 1860 Bradley County, Tennessee census shows Benjamin with his parents and siblings.

In 1864, Benjamins family moved to Georgia.  

Benjamin married Eliza Caledonia Phelps on February 14, 1867, in Randolph County, Georgia. Caledonia Phelps was born in 1850, the daughter of Zebulon Phelps and Rhoda Johnson.

In 1870, Benjamin and his family lived for a short time with his parents and siblings in Dougherty County, Georgia.  The census shows S. D. Bridgeman, 51, farmer, $5000 real property, $2000 personal property; Sarah J., 38; Thomas C., 14; Mary E., 11; Chas. L., 6; Robert L., 4; Martha J., 1; Benjamin Bridgeman, 23, retired merchant; Eliza C. Bridgeman, 20 and Nettie Bridgeman, 2 years old.

Benjamin became a doctor.  We have been told he was the first doctor in Shellman, Randolph County, Georgia.

The 1880 Randolph County, Georgia census shows B. E. Bridgman, 33, a physician; Eliza C., wife, 30; Nellie V., daughter, 12 and Mary V., daughter, 3 years old.

The 1900 Randolph County census shows Benjamin E. Bridgman, 53, born Jan 1847, married 33 years, a physician who owned his farm; Eliza C., wife, 50, born May 1850, had given birth to 3 children, 3 children were still living and Bennie L., son, 13, born Sept 1886, in Georgia.

Benjamin Elliott died October 19, 1909, in Randolph County, Georgia.  Caledonia died there in August 1927.
