Harriet Ellen "Ella" Paceley was born October 1, 1857, in Hamilton County, Ohio, the daughter of Benjamin F. Paceley and Elzira Parmer.
Ella married Melvin B. Ice on Paril 18, 1875, in Indiana. Melvin Ice was born October 21, 1846, in Monroe County, Ohio, the son of George W. Ice, Jr. and Mahala Brown.
Melvin and Ella settled in Spencer County, Indiana. The 1880 Spencer County census, Ohio Township, shows Melvin Ice, 34, a farmer; Ella, wife, 22; Jennie P., daughter, 4; Clarence, son, 3; Jesse, son, 1; and (name illegible to me on census), daughter, 2 months old. Living with Melvin and Ella was George W. Ice, brother, 24; and Sally E. Pacely, sister-in-law, 15. Living near-by were Melvin's parents and siblings.
The 1900 Spencer County census shows the family still in Ohio Township. The census shows Melvin Ice, 55, born October 1846, married 26 years, a farmer who owned his farm; Ella, wife, 42, born October 1857, had given birth to 7 children, 7 children still living; Clarence, son, 23, born February 1877, a soldier; Albert, son, 17, born August 1882, a farmer; Lewis, son, 14, born September 1885, a farmer; and Wallace, son, 11, born May 1889, a farmer.
Ella died December 27, 1939, in Spencer County, Indiana.
