Ephraim H. F. Wheeler

Ephraim H. F. Wheeler was born April 21, 1840, at Careyville, in Campbell County, Tennessee, the son of Richard Drummond Wheeler and Charlotte S. Bridgman.

Careyville was established on land owned by Richard Drummond Wheeler and was originally called Wheeler's Gap because of the large population of Wheelers in that area.

The 1850 Wayne County, Tennessee census shows 10 year old Ephraim at home with his parents and siblings.

Goodspeed's History of Campbell County, Tennessee, 1887, relates that Ephraim was "reared on the farm, and acquired his education in the neighboring school and at Jacksboro. He followed farming until the breaking out of the late war, and in 1862 enlisted in Company A, First Federal Regiment Tennessee Infantry, commanded by Col. Robert Bird. He served throughout the war, and was mustered out of service at Nashville in 1865. He then returned to Campbell County, and has since followed farming, and is one of the largest farmers of the Fourth Civil District, owning and cultivating a farm of over 300 acres one mile east of Jacksboro".

Ephraim married Anna Jane Sharp in October 1876, in Campbell County. Anna Sharp was born in November 28, 1852, in Campbell County, the daughter of William Henry Sharp and Sarah Jane Kincaid.

Henry Sharp was born May 17, 1829 and died December 17, 1885, in Campbell County.  Sarah Kincaid was born  December 4, 1832 and died January 1907, in Campbell County. They were married on November 25, 1851, in Campbell County.  Henry and Sarah are buried in the Sharp Cemetery in Campbell County.  Their children included: (1)  Anna Jane Sharp, b. 1852; (2) Casper Wistar Sharp, b. Nov 16, 1854 and (3) Sarah Elizabeth Ann Sharp, b. Aug 1860; m. David H. Wheeler (Ephraim's brother).   

The 1880 Campbell County, Tennessee census, Jacksboro Township, shows E. F. Wheeler, 40, a farmer and Annie, wife, 26 years old. 

Goodspeed's History of Campbell County, Tennessee, 1887, states that Anna was "a member of the Methodist Church South".

Ephraim died April 30, 1895, in Campbell County.   Anna died there on August 25, 1917.
