Flora Belle Harmon was born January 26, 1870, in Gallatin County, Illinois, the daughter of Wilson Harmon and Elizabeth Endicott.
Flora Belle is listed as five months old on the 1870 Gallatin County census. Between 1875 and 1879, her family moved toward Indian Territory in present day Oklahoma.
Flora Belle appears with her parents on the 1880 Boone County, Arkansas census in Carrolton Township. Flora Belle is listed as eleven years old on that census.
Flora's family settled near the Arkansas and Indian Territory border, living in either Sebastian County, Arkansas or LeFlore County in the Indian Territory.
Flora Belle married James Monroe Dolan on February 8, 1887. James Dolan was born February 27, 1856, in Missouri. James was a farmer.
James and Flora Belle settled near the Arkansas and Indian Territory border to begin their family. Their first child was born June 1889, in Arkansas. Apparently James moved his family across the line into Indian Territory soon after the birth of their first child. Census shows the second child was born June 1890, in Indian Territory. Census records show three more children were born in Indian Territory. We believe Flora Belle's parents were living just across the line near Cameron in Indian Territory at that time. We think Flora Belle's mother died about 1890 to 1894. It is possible that is why Flora Belle's family was in the area at that time. Flora Belle may have helped care for her mother before her death. This has not been documented, however.
Census records indicate that James and Flora Belle returned to Arkansas between 1896 and 1900. They settled in Sebastian County. The family appears on the 1900 Sebastian County census. With James and Flora Belle on the census are their children Lillie, age 18; Fay, age 16; Jamie, age 14; Ben, age 10; Carl, age 8; Lena, age 5; Gertrude, age 3; and Luther, age 10 months.
The family lived near Bonanza in Sebastian County for many years. Flora Belle died August 16, 1938 and is buried in White Bluff Cemetery north of Bonanza. James died December 1943 and is buried at White Bluff Cemetery with his wife.
