Isaac Brown Will

I, Isaac Brown of the County of Wythe and State of Virginia do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say:

1st     I desire that all my just debts be paid out of my personal estate which are but few and none of any great magnitude.  

2nd    I give to my wife Polly Brown and my daughter Nancy Brown all my household and kitchen furniture to be divided equally between them and two cows a piece also five beeds equally between them.

3rd     I give to my son Aron Brown the plantation whereon I now live after my decease reserving to my wife the one third front during her natural life by the said Aron Brown, paying to my James Brown the sum of one hundred dollars in twelve months after my decease.

4th     I give to my son James Brown one Beed and furniture.

5th     I give to my daughter Jane Bridgeman one Beed and furniture.

6th     I give to my son John Brown the plantation on the north east side of Reed Creek whear on the sd Brown formerly lived.

7th     I give to my daughter Hannah Harrell one cow and calf.

8th     I give to my daughters Mariam Bridgeman, Betsey Black, Polly Davis and Sally Pierce one dollar each.

9th     I give to my daughter Nancy Brown one gray horse which I now have in my possession to hurs after my decease.

10th   All the rest of my estate of what nature or kind so ever it may be not herein before particularly disposed of I desire may be equally divided between my four children (to wit) John, James, Aron and Nancy Brown and my wife Polly Brown.   And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my friends Beale and Stephen Sayers executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other or former wills by me heretofore made. 

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this second day of March in the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven.

August 11, 1828

Virginia.   At a Court held for Wythe County the 11th day of August 1828.

This the last will and testament of Isaac Brown decd was presented in Court and being proved by the oaths of Elijah Sayers, Anderson Howard & John Calfee subscribing witnesses thereto the same is ordered to be recorded.   And at a Court held for said County the 8th day of September 1828 Beale Sayers & Stephen Sayers the executors herein named having refused to qualify and Polly Brown the widow of the deceased declining to take administration.   In the motion of James Brown administration of the estate of said Isaac Brown decd with the will annexed is granted him whereupon he entered into bond with David Graham & Robert Sayers his securities in the penalty of six hundred Dollars conditioned as the law directs and took the oath required by law.

Isaac Brown Inventory & Appraisement

An Inventory of the personal estate of Isaac Brown decd appraised by us the undersigned being duly sworn as the law directs agreeable to an order of the County Court of Wythe dated Sept 8th 1828.

(list of items inventoried followed)

We do hereby certify that the aforementioned property with the appraisement annex (which makes an aggregate of $741.75 exclusive of the standing corn) is a true inventory of the estate of Isaac Brown decd shown us by James Brown admr. of sd Isaac Brown decd.   Given under our hands this 27th day of Sept 1828.
