Isaac Grant Bridgman

Isaac Grant Bridgman was born July 13, 1867, in Walker County, Georgia, the son of Franklin David Bridgman and Susan Barron.

Isaac appears on the 1870 and 1880 Walker County, Georgia census with his parents and siblings.

Isaac married Amelia Augusta Gropp on July 3, 1892, at Heartland, in Montgomery County, Kansas.  Amelia Gropp was born March 19, 1873, in Insterburg, Germany.  She was the daughter of John Samuel Gropp and Amelia Schagun

John Gropp was born January 19, 1848, in Insterburg, Germany and died March 29, 1923, in Kendall, Kearny County, Kansas.  Amelia Schagun was born September 14, 1849, in Insterburg, Germany and died February 10, 1892, in Kendall, Kearny County.   At least four children were born to the couple in Germany.  Census records show that the family immigrated to the U.S. in 1885.  Several more children were born after their arrival in the U.S. 

Isaac and Amelia began their family in Kansas, but moved to Colorado prior to 1899.  The 1900 Otero County, Colorado census shows Grant Bridgeman, born July 1867, 32, married 8 years, a boiler maker; Amelia A., wife, born Mar 1873, 27, had given birth to 3 children, 2 children were still living; Frank E., son, born Apr 1893, 7, born in Kansas and Carrie, daughter, born Mar 1899, 1, born in Colorado.  Living with the family was Amelia's brother, Albert Gropp, born Nov 1881, 18, born in Germany, a laborer at a grist mill.

The family moved to Kansas for a short time about 1904 before moving to Arkansas about 1906.  The 1910 Baxter County, Arkansas census shows the family living in the town of Cotter.   The census shows Isaac G. Bridgman, 41, married 17 years, a boiler maker for the railroad; Amelia G., wife, 37, had given birth to 7 children, 6 children were still living; Frank E., son, 17; Carry A., daughter, 11; Stanley G., son, 9, born in Colorado; Racheal L., daughter, 4, born in Kansas; Roy R., son, 3, born in Arkansas and Morris, son, 9 months old.  Three other railroad workers were boarding with the family at the time. 

The 1920 Baxter County census shows the family still living in the town of Cotter.  The census shows Grant Bridgeman, 52, a boiler maker at the railroad roundhouse; Amelia, 46; Cara, 20, a school teacher; Stanley, 18, a farm laborer; Rachel, 14; Roy, 12; Maurice, 10; James, 8 and Mabel, 6 years old. 

The 1930 Baxter County census shows Grant Bridgman, 63, a master boiler maker mechanic; Amelia, 57; Stanley Grant, son, 30, divorced, a farm laborer; James A., 19, a farmer and Mabel, 16 years old. 

The family moved to California some years later.  Amelia died October 14, 1944, in Los Angeles County, California.  Isaac Grant Bridgman died September 30, 1953, at El Monte, Los Angeles County, California.
