Will of James Crow, 1795

In the name of God, amen. I, James Crow, of the county of Chatham, in North Carolina, being infirm in body, but of sound mind and memory, thanks to almighty God for the same, and calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament, in manner and form following.

First and principally, I recommend my immortal soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it, hoping through the merits of my blessed Redeemer to receive life everlasting, and as to my worldly estate, wherewith it hath been please God to bless me, I give and dispose of it as follows.

First, my will is that all my just debts be regularly discharged.

Item, I give to my beloved son, John Crow, ten shillings, to him, his heirs, and assigns forever.

Item, I give to my beloved son, James Crow, ten shillings, to him, his heirs, and assigns forever.

Item, I give to my beloved son, Stephen Crow, ten shillings, to him, his heirs, and assigns forever.

Item, I give to my beloved son, Ruben Crow, ten shillings, to him, his heirs, and assigns forever.

Item, I give to my beloved son, Isaac Crow, ten shillings, to him, his heirs, and assigns forever.

Item, I give to my beloved son, Abel Crow, ten shillings, to him, his heirs, and assigns forever.

Item, I give to my beloved son, William Crow, ten shillings, to him, his heirs, and assigns forever.

Item, I give to my beloved daughter, Hannah Bron, ten shillings, to her, her heirs, and assigns forever.

Item, I give to my beloved daughter, Abba Riller Pilkinton, ten shillings, to her, her heirs, and assigns forever.

Item, I give to my grandson, Levy Crow, ten shillings, to him, his heirs, and assigns forever.

Item, I give to my grand daughter, Annas Crow, ten shillings, to her, her heirs, and assigns forever.

Item, I give to my two sons, Ruben Crow and Isaac Crow, all the land belong to the plantation whereon I now live, to be divided between them, according to the line of agreement as it now stands, the upper part to Ruben and the lower part to Isaac, them, their heirs, and assigns forever.

Item, I give to my beloved son, Ruben Crow, a tract of land containing fifty acres, lying on Colbeser (?) Mountain,a to him, his heirs, and assigns forever.

And all the residue and remainder of my estate, of what kind or quality soever it may consist, my will is that it be sold and equally divided between the above named persons, only with this reserve, that Abba Riller Pilkerton have two shares, and the rest all an equal share, to them, their heirs, and assigns forever.

Lastly, I constitute and appoint my two sons, John Crow and Stephen Crow, sole executors of this my last will and testament, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixteenth day of July, on thousand, seven hundred and ninety-two.
