Jane Maxey was born about 1802, in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Hail Maxey and Dicey Craighead.
Jane's family had moved from Franklin County, Virginia, to Oglethorpe County, Georgia about 1801. Jane grew up in Oglethorpe County.
Jane married John Jacks on August 15, 1817, in Oglethorpe County. John Jacks was born in 1799, in Union County, South Carolina. He was the son of William Greenberry Jacks (b. 1775, NC; d. 1849, Clarke Co, GA) and Delilah Young (b. 1780, NC; d. abt 1850, Clarke Co, GA).
Prior to 1820, John and Jane settled in Clarke County, Georgia. John and Jane had a large family and most of their children were born in Clarke County. The 1820 Clarke County census shows John Jacks, a male 16-25 (b. 1794-1804), one male under 10 (b. 1811-1820), one female 16-25 (b. 1795-1804) and two females under 10 (b. 1811-1820). John owned one male slave.
The 1830 Clarke County census shows John Jacks, a male 30-39 (b. 1791-1800), one male 10-14 (b. 18161-1820), one male 5-9 (b. 1821-1825), one male under 5 (b. 1826-1830), one female 20-29 (b. 1801-1810), one female 10-14 (b. 1816-1820), one female 5-9 (b. 1821-1825) and three females under 5 (b. 1826-1830).
About 1837, the family moved to Coosa County, Alabama. We did not locate the family on the 1840 census, although we know they were in Coosa County during that time period. .
Jane was named in her father's will, which was signed in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, on April 7, 1845.
Jane died August 1, 1850, at Rockford, in Coosa County, Alabama.
Census indicates that at least 16 children were born to John and Jane. Several of the children did not live to adulthood, however.
John married Edith "Edy" Foster on October 13, 1850, in Coosa County. Edith was born 1812, in Georgia.
The 1850 Coosa County, Alabama census shows John Jacks, 50, a farmer; Edith, 37; Isaac, 18, a farmer; Frances, 16; John, 15; Martha, 11 and Doctor, 7 years old. Living next to John was his son Young Jacks, 22, a farmer and his wife Sarah, 21 years old. Living near-by was his son Green Jacks, 25, a farmer and his wife, Elizabeth, 17 years old.
The 1860 Coosa County census shows John Jacks, 60, a farmer; Edy, 47; Dr F., 15, a farm laborer; Monroe, 9; Margarett, 7; Archibald, 5 and Alabama, 3 years old. Living next to John was his son John A. Jacks, 25, a farmer; Caroline, 26; Alice L., 2 and Columbus, 4 months old.
Edith died between about 1861 and 1865, in Coosa County. John and Edith had four children.
John married Mahala Dennis on May 18, 1865, in Coosa County. Mahala was born March 4, 1840, in Alabama and died April 15, 1931, in Chilton County, Alabama.
The 1870 Coosa County census shows John Jacks, 70, a farmer, $1000 real property, $1000 personal property; Mahala, 30; Margaret, 17; Arch, 14; Alabama, 13 and A. B., (a female), 1 year old. Living next to John was his son J. M. Jacks, 19, and his wife, D. A., 17 years old. The census shows the couple had married September 1869.
John died at Rockford, in Coosa County, Alabama, on November 3, 1870.

3. Cass Anderson Jacks was born about 1820, in Clarke Co, GA. He married Emily ____. Cass died before 1850, in Pickens Co, AL.
4. Samuel Jacks was born about 1822, in Clarke Co, GA.
5. Unknown Daughter Jacks was born about 1822, in Clarke Co, GA.
6. Greenberry Hale Jacks was born Jan 13, 1825, in Clarke Co, GA. He married Elizabeth Ann Sconiers on Feb 6, 1850, in Coosa Co, AL. Green died Aug 7, 1866, at Rockford, in Coosa Co.
7. Unknown Daughter Jacks was born about 1826, in Clarke Co, GA. We believe she died before 1840 in Clarke Co, GA or Coosa Co, AL.
8. Delilah Jane Jacks was born about 1827, in Clarke Co, GA. Jane married William Bridges on Jan 18, 1846, in Coosa Co, AL. William was born about 1827, in GA. William and Delilah both died prior to 1870 in Coosa Co.
9. Unknown Daughter Jacks was born about 1827, in Clarke Co, GA. She died prior to 1840, in Clarke Co, GA or Coosa Co, AL.
10. Young Jacks was born Aug 3, 1828, in Clarke Co, GA. He married Sarah Parker on Jan 13, 1850, in Coosa Co, AL. Young died May 2, 1914, in Columbia Co, AR.
11. Sarah Elvira Jacks was born Mar 5, 1830, in Clarke Co, GA. She married Hardy Jones on Oct 30, 1848, in Coosa Co, AL. Sarah died Dec 15, 1884, in Chilton Co, AL.
