John Clayborne Avey was born March 16, 1872, at Newnata, in Stone County, Arkansas, the son of James Epson Avey and Rebecca Parlee Anderson.
John married Edna Jane Gower on December 24, 1891, in Stone County. Edna was born July 6, 1873, in Stone County, the daughter of William Lewis Gower and Louvisa Martin.
Edna died December 12, 1922, at Newnata. John died July 11, 1940 at Newnata. They are buried in Big Spring Cemetery, near Timbo, in Stone County.
