Jemima Catherine Copeland

Jemima Catherine Copeland was born April 5, 1845, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the daughter of Joseph Matthew Copeland and Sarah Wade Cypert.

Jemima married Robert Henry Clay Sims on August 5, 1865, in Wayne County. Robert Sims was born November 5, 1844, in Wayne County, the son of Matthew Joseph Sims and Dorothy Turley Greeson. Matthew Sims (1816-1890) was the son of Robert Sims and Frances Merritt. Robert Sims (1783-1842) was the son of Pariss Sims and Keziah Royster. Pariss Sims was born in Belfast, Ulster County, North Ireland about 1750, and came to America about 1765, with his widowed mother and two brothers, Abraham and Robert, and fought in the Revolutionary War. Dorothy Turley Greeson (born 1817) was the daughter of Henry Christopher Greeson (born 1788) and Elizabeth Cook (born 1794). Henry C. Greeson was the son of Isaac Greeson (1766-1856) and Doretha Turley Ingle (1774-1856). Elizabeth Cook was the daughter of John Cook.

Robert was in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. He was captured in 1862, and taken to Libby Prison. He escaped and later joined the Union Army.

Robert served three terms as a Judge in Wayne County. He served two terms as County Trustee and was also Postmaster at Sims, Tennessee, at one time.

Jemima died April 5, 1921, in Wayne County. Robert died there on November 28, 1928. They are buried in the Cypert-Copeland Cemetery in Wayne County.
