James married Phoebe Carlock on February 12, 1889, in Catoosa County, Georgia. Phoebe Carlock was born December 1864, in Georgia, the daughter of John Bowman Carlock and Mary A. Davis.
John B. Carlock was born March 1832, in Marion County, Tennessee and died February 20, 1909, in Catoosa County, Georgia. Mary Davis was born in 1831, in Georgia and died in 1914. Their children included: (1) Joseph Taylor Carlock, b. 1854; (2) William D. Carlock, b. 1855; (3) Thomas W. Carlock, b. 1856; (4) James Henry Carlock, b. 1857; (5) George M. Carlock, b. 1862; (6) Mary Phoebe Carlock, b. 1864; (7) Amanda Lydia Carlock, b. 1870 and (8) Victoria Carlock, b. 1872.
James died March 18, 1896, probably in Georgia. We believe Phoebe moved back to Alabama to be near her parents soon after the death of James.
Phoebe is listed as Ruby on the 1900 Catoosa County, Alabama census. The census shows Ruby Bridgman, born Dec 1864, 35, widow, had given birth to 2 children, 2 children were still living, a farmer who owned her farm; John, son, born Dec 1892, 7, born in Missouri and Earl, son, born June 1895, 4, born in Georgia. Living with the family was her brother, George M. Carlock, born Aug 1862, 37, widowed, a farmer and her uncle, Henry Carlock, born May 1826, 74. Listed next to Phoebe were her parents John B. Carlock, born Mar 1832, 68, married 47 years, a farmer who owned his farm and Mary A., wife, born Sept 1831, 68, had given birth to 10 children, 7 children were still living. Boarding with John and Mary was James' brother, Doc Bridgman, born Oct 1875, 24, single, a blacksmith.
