James Henry "Jim" Crow was born January 2, 1893, at Cave City, in Independence County, Arkansas, the son of Thomas Jefferson "Jeff" Crow and Arena "Renie" Green.
Jim's family moved to near Scotland, in Van Buren County, Arkansas, between 1893 and 1898. Jim grew up at Scotland.
Jim married Effie Alice Chance on September 21, 1911, in Van Buren County, Arkansas. Effie Chance was born April 14, 1893, at Cleveland, the daughter of John William Chance and Sarah Frances Williams. John Chance was the son of Tillman Chance and Tabitha Cato. Sarah Williams was the daughter of M. D. Williams and Sarah Haney.
The 1930 Conway County census, Welborn Township, shows Jim Crow, rented his farm, 37, married at 18; Effie, 36, married at 17; Thomas, 17; Odis, 14; Leland, 11; Sara, 8; Archie, 7; Don, 2; and Thurman, 2 months old.
Jim died August 6, 1966, and is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, near Scotland. Effie died June 11, 1979, at Vivian, Louisiana, and is buried beside her husband in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
