John Varner was born about 1792, the son of Jacob Varner and Sarah Ficklin.
John married Rebecca McCarty on April 26, 1813, in Harrison County, Kentucky. Rebecca McCarty was born about 1795, in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Samuel McCarty.
John fought in the War of 1812. He was a member of the Harrison County, Kentucky Militia. He received a Bounty Land Warrant for his services.
John and Rebecca moved to Indiana, where they appear on the 1830 Posey County census, living near his parents and younger brother James B. Varner.
John and Rebecca later moved to Illinois. John died February 2, 1870, in Saline County, Illinois. Rebecca died there December 3, 1873.
