John William Franks was born August 1, 1875, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the son of William Morton Franks and Emiline Paralee "Emily" Franks.
The Franks family moved to Arkansas between about 1891 and 1897. They settled in the Campbell Community of Searcy County, near Leslie.
John married Mary Belle Sutterfield on March 15, 1902, in Searcy County. Mary Belle Sutterfield was born March 28, 1880, in Searcy County, Arkansas, the daughter of Henry Sutterfield and Ellen Watts.
The 1930 Searcy County census, Bear Creek Township, shows John W. Franks, a farmer who rented his farm, 55; Mary B., 50; Floyd F., 27, a farm laborer; Elmer L., 26, a highway laborer; Floy M., 23; Ellen E., 22, a school teacher; Hazel E., 19, a school teacher; Hugh S., 18, a farm helper; W. Ray, 13; and Ruth F., 9 years old. Living next door was John's brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Phoebe Franks.
Mary Belle died January 27, 1953, and is buried in East Lawn Cemetery, at Marshall, in Searcy County. John died March 26, 1955, and is buried in East Lawn Cemetery.
