Jacob E. Scarlett

Jacob E. Scarlett was born about 1817, in North Carolina. We have been told that Jacob E. Scarlett and James Madison Scarlett were brothers. They may have been the sons of John Scarlett, born April 9, 1791.

Jacob and James Scarlett went to Indiana sometime between about 1819 and 1834. They both married in Indiana, or moved to Indiana shortly after their marriage. They appear to have left Indiana at the same time and moved to Arkansas.

Jacob married Nancy (last name unknown) about 1835. Nancy was born about 1810, in Kentucky, according to census records.

The first five of Jacob and Nancy's children were born in Indiana. Between 1845 and 1848, Jacob moved his family to Arkansas. Jacob and James M. Scarlett probably traveled from Indiana to Arkansas together.

Jacob Scarlett appears on the 1850 Van Buren County, Arkansas, census in Cadron Township. Jacob was a farmer. Jacob died between 1852 and 1860, in Van Buren County. His widow, Nancy, appears with their children on the 1860 Van Buren County census, in Cadron Township.

The 1870 Van Buren County census, Cadron Township shows Nancy, age 60, with daughter Pamelia and son James D. still single and living at home. Living next door to them was Nancy's daughter, Alzira and her husband, Orin McClure, son of Stephen McClure.
