James married Mary Catherine Purks on February 24, 1853 in Culpeper County. Mary Purks was the daughter of Joseph P. Purks and Mary Anne Wintz. (James' sister, Jane, married Mary Purks brother, Joseph.)
James died October 6, 1898 in Culpeper County.
