Landon H. Butler was born February 14, 1797, in Culpeper County, Virginia, the son of Spencer Butler and Elizabeth (last name unknown).
He was mentioned in his father's will, dated July 20, 1818, to receive five dollars.
Landon married Aseneth Mary Dondell on May 24, 1823, in Culpeper County. Mary Dondell was born July 12, 1798, in Culpeper County, Virginia. I have been told that she was previously married to George G. Beemer. She had two daughters from her first marriage.
The 1830 Culpeper County census shows L. H. Butler, a male 30-39; one female 30-39; one female 10-14; one female 5-9 and one female under 5 years old. The two older daughters are Mary's children from her first marriage.
Landon owned property, which he had to sell in 1834 to settle some outstanding debts.
The 1850 Rappahannock County, Virginia census shows Landon, 48, a blacksmith, living with the Henry Jones family. We did not locate Mary, who was not living with him at the time.
We have been told that Mary died October 9, 1854, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Landon died after 1857, in Rappahannock County, Virginia.
