Lydia Watts Morrow

Lydia Watts Morrow was born January 14, 1830, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the daughter of John Morrow and Elizabeth Worthen Cypert.

Lydia married Jesse Downing on January 5, 1848, in Wayne County. Jesse Downing was born June 26, 1826, in Madison County, Alabama, the son of Andrew Downing.

Jesse and Lydia settled in Wayne County to raise their family. Jesse was a farmer.

Jesse joined the Union Army during the Civil War. He enlisted in the 10th Regiment, Co. G, Tennessee Volunteer Infantry, on June 14, 1862. He served as a private, then a sergeant, under Capt. Otto Jacobens. He was discharged June 24, 1865.

Jesse died July 25, 1896, in Wayne County. He is buried in the Morrow-Downing Cemetery on Indian Creek in Wayne County. Lydia died at Iron City, Tennessee, on July 22, 1905. She is buried in the Old Wade Cemetery.
