Margaret Bridgman

Margaret Bridgman was born May 25, 1808, in Wythe County, Virginia.     She was the daughter of Franklin Bridgman and his second wife, Rhoda May.

Margaret's father, Franklin, died in Wythe County in 1820.     Prior to 1823, Margaret's mother, Rhoda, moved with her children to Grainger County, Tennessee. 

 Margaret married William Anderson Dyer on March 12, 1833, in Grainger County, Tennessee. 

William Dyer was born January 29, 1806, in Grainger County, the son of William "Redhead" Dyer and Ellendor Klenor.     William Dyer was born about 1776, in Pittsylvania Co, VA and died December 1842, Morgan County, Illinois.     Ellendor Klenor was born 1790, in Pittsylvania Co, VA and died 1855, in Morgan County, Illinois.     William's sister, Anna Dyer, married Margaret's brother, Martin B. Bridgman.

We believe William and Margaret were in Rhea County, Tennessee in 1840 and moved their family to Illinois just prior to 1850. 

The 1850 Morgan County, Illinois census shows Willliam Dyer, 39, a farmer, $800 real property; Margaret, 42; George, 16, a farmer; William, 15; Rhoda, 12; Joseph, 10; Eleanor, 8 and Thomas, 2 years old.     All the children were listed as born in Tennessee. 

The 1870 Morgan County census shows Wm R. Dyer, 63, a farmer, $200 real property, $2000 personal property, born in Illinois and Margaret Dyer, 62, born in Illinois.    The couple was living with the Leopold Addmann family from Prussia.

 Margaret died January 12, 1878, in Morgan County, Illinois.

William appears on the 1880 Morgan County census, living with his son John Dyer.    The census shows John Dyer, 27, farmer, born in Illinois; Nellie, 22, wife, born in Illinois; Wm. A. Dyer, 73, father, widowed, retired farmer, born in Tennessee; Wm. R. Dyer, 44, brother, single, a farmer, born in Tennessee and Lillie Buckston, 18, sister-in-law, single, born in Illinois.

  William died  January 18, 1895, in Cass County, Illllinois.
