Matthew Josiah Sims was born in 1869, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the son of Matthew Joseph Sims, Jr. and Lydia Hannah Jane Youngblood.
Matthew married Mary Horton about 1889. Mary Horton was born February 8, 1871, in Wayne County, the daughter of Joseph Josiah Henderson Horton and Nellie Dotson Gravett.
Mary died June 25, 1934, in Hardin County, Tennessee.
