Nancy Bridgman

Nancy Bridgman was born about 1832, in Campbell County, Tennessee, the daughter of William Bridgman and Mariam Brown.

The 1850 Campbell County census shows 18 year old Nancy with her parents and siblings.

Nancy married Willis Bruce on December 12, 1850, in Campbell County, Tennessee. Willis Bruce was born about 1830, in Tennessee, the son of Daniel Bruce and Mary "PollIie" Clotfelter.

Daniel Bruce was born 1798, in South Carolina and died June 24, 1874, in Campbell County.  Mary "Pollie" Clotfelter was born 1801, in Georgia and died November 13, 1875, in Campbell County.  All but the eldest of Daniel and Polly's children were born in Campbell County.  Their children included: (1) Olive "Ollie" Bruce, b. 1823, GA; m. Sampson David Queener; (2) Nancy Bruce, b. 1825; m. David Hart; (3) William Bruce, b. 1827; m. Anne E. Bridgman (Nancy's sister); (4) Willis Bruce, b. 1829; (5) Mary J. Bruce, b. 1833; (6) Sarah Bruce, b. 1836; m. Jacob S. Clotfelter; (7) Elizabeth Bruce, b. 1840; m. Isaac Muzings; (8) John Bruce, b. 1842; m.  Sarah David and (9) George R. Bruce, b. 1849.

The 1860 Campbell County census, 11th Civil District, Jacksboro Township, shows Willis Bruce, 28, a farmer, personal property valued at $300; Nancy, 25 and son Marian, 3 years old.

We did not locate the family in 1870.  The 1880 Claiborne County, Tennessee census shows Willis Bruce, 50, farmer and Nancy, 45 year old. 

Nancy died about before 1893, probably in Claiborne County, Tennessee. 

After Nancy's death, Willis married Sarah Elizabeth Minton about 1893, probably in Clairborne County.  They appear on the 1900 and 1910 Claiborne County census.  Willis and Sarah had several children.  Willis and Nancy had only one child.
