The 1850 Campbell County census shows Daniel Bruce, 52, a farmer, real estate valued at $4000, born in South Carolina; Mary, 49, born in Georgia; William, 23, a farmer, born in Tennessee (William married Nancy's sister Ann E. Bridgman); Willis, 20, a farmer, born in Tennessee; Mary, 17, born in Tennessee; Sarah, 14, born in Tennessee; Elizabeth, 9, born in Tennessee; John N., 6, born in Tennessee; and George R., 1, born in Tennessee.
The 1860 Campbell County census, 11th Civil District, Jacksboro Township, shows Willis Bruce, 28, a farmer, personal property valued at $300; Nancy, 25; and Mariam, 3 years old.
The family apparently left Campbell County prior to the 1870 census. At this time we have not located Willis and Nancy on the 1870 census to know how many children were born after their son Mariam.
The 1880 Claiborne County, Tennessee census, District 9, shows Willis Bruce, 50, a farmer, born in Tennessee, father born in South Carolina, mother born in Georgia; and Nancy, 45, born in Tennessee, father and mother both born in Virginia.
