Nancy married Wesley Rufus Lafferty about 1847, probably in Independence County. Wesley Lafferty was born about 1823, in Arkansas, the son of John Lindsey Lafferty (b. 1793, GA; d. 1869, Van Buren Co, AR) and Lucinda Bagley (b. 1801, GA; d. 1840, Van Buren Co, AR).
The 1850 Independence County, Arkansas census, White River Township, shows Westley Lafferty, 27, a farmer; Nancy, 21; and Sarah J., 2 years old. Living next door to the family was Nancy's brother Joseph Hess and his family.
Wesley Lafferty died May 1860, in Pope County, Arkansas, from dropsy according to the 1860 Arkansas Mortality Schedule.
The 1860 Pope County, Arkansas, census shows Nancy Lafferty, 29, personal property valued at $200; Joana, 12; and Wm W. M., 2 years old. They were living with her brother James Samuel Hess and his family.
