Nora Maria Jones was born December 1882, in Faulkner County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Dockery Berry Giddens Jones and his second wife, Sarah Jane Edwards.
Nora's mother died when Nora was about four years old. Nora's dad then married her mother's sister, Samantha Paralee Jones, making Nora's aunt also her step-mother.
The Jones family moved to White County, Arkansas prior to 1889 and to Van Buren County, Arkansas prior to 1900. Nora grew up in Culpepper Township of Van Buren County.
Nora married Joseph C. Jones on September 2, 1905, in Van Buren County. Although they shared the same last name, Joe was no relation to Nora. Joseph Jones was born July 1871, in Arkansas according to census.
Joseph was married prior to his marriage to Nora. He appears with his first wife and children on the 1900 Van Buren County census, in Choctaw Township. The census shows Joseph Jones, 38, born July 1871, married 8 years, born in Arkansas, father and mother born in Alabama, a farmer; Eliza C., wife, 26, born Mar 1874, married 8 years, had given birth to 4 children, all 4 children still living, born in Arkansas, father and mother born in Arkansas; Oragan B., daughter, 6, born Jan 1894, in Arkansas; Cordelia, daughter, 4, born Nov 1895, in Arkansas; Alfred A., son, 2, born Oct 1897, in Arkansas and Norba, daughter, less than one month old, born May 1900, in Arkansas. Eliza Jones died prior to 1905.
Joseph and Nora appear on the 1910 Van Buren County census, in Griggs Township. The census shows Joseph C. Jones, 37, married 2 times, married 5 years, a farmer; Nora B., wife, 26, married 1 time, married 5 years, had given birth to 2 children, both children still living; Oregon, daughter, 15; Delia B., daughter, 14; Alfred C., son, 12; Narba H., daughter, 10; Malfred T., son, 4 and Josie F., daughter, 1 year old.
The family moved to Oklahoma prior to 1913.
The 1920 Adair County, Oklahoma census shows Joe C. Jones, 49, a laborer; Nora, wife, 37; Makfard, son, 13; Josie, dau, 11; Eula, daughter, 6 and Loys, daughter, 2 years old.
The 1930 Washington County, Arkansas census shows the family living in Litteral Township. The census shows Joseph Jones, 58, a farmer; Nora, wife, 48; Lois B., daughter, 12; Frank, son, 10 and Cecil C., son, 8 years old.
After Joe died Nora married Ben Ray.
Nora was living at Rogers, Arkansas on March 27, 1962 when her half-sister, Rosa Jones Lay died. Nora Ray was listed as a survivor in the obituary.
