Oliver P. Bridgman

Oliver P. Bridgman was born about 1829, in Campbell County, Tennessee, the son of William Bridgman and Mariam Brown.  Oliver and his sister Anne E. may have been twins.

Oliver married Sarah Jane Owens on May 8, 1853, in Campbell County, Tennessee. Sarah Owens was born about 1835, in Tennessee, the daughter of James D. Owens and Sarah Jones.

Oliver and Sarah moved from Tennessee to Georgia between 1856 and 1859.  In the summer or fall of 1859, they migrated to Arkansas.

The 1860 Sebastian County, Arkansas census, Marion Township, shows Oliver Bridgman, 31, farmer; Sarah, 25; William, 5; Eliza, 4 and James, 1 year old.

On September 4, 1869, Oliver bought 160 acres of land in Benton Township, Holt County, Missouri.  Oliver and Sarah sold this land on April 18, 1870 to descendants of John Archer. Oliver and Sarah were living on this property and were tavern owners at the time of the 1870 census.

 The 1870 Holt County, Missouri census shows the family in Benton Township, North Point Post Office.  The census shows Oliver Bridgeman, 43, saloon keeper, $500 real property; Sarah J., 33; William K., 15; Eliza E., 13; Mary E., 8 and Oliver P., 1 year old.  Boarding with the family were Joshua H. Banks, 20, barber, Maryland; Richard L. Jackson, 28, druggist, $700 real property, $2000 personal property, Virginia; James P. Jackson, 26, physician, $1500 real property, $2500 personal property, Virginia; Marcus Rhoades, 29, physician, $1200 personal property, Missouri and Horrace J. Howley, 40, $250 real property, $700 personal property, Pennsylvania.

Oliver P. Bridgman died August 27, 1889.
