Hans Peter Wampler, Jr.

Hans Peter Wampler, Jr. was born August 4, 1722, in Hinsingen, Alsace.    He was the son of Johann (Hans) Peter Wampler and Anna Veronica Lung.

Peter's family immigrated to America in 1741, and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.   Ship records show Peter was 18 years of age at the time.

Peter married Anna Barbara Brenneisen on September 26, 1743, in Hill Lutheran Church, at Annville, Lancaster County.   Anna Barbara Brenneisen was born about 1725, the daughter of Hans Valentine Brenneisen and Margaretha (last name unknown).

(The following information was contributed to us by other researchers. We do not know if it is from the book Wamplers in America by Genevieve M. Shouse, printed by Gateway Press, Inc. of Baltimore in 1981. The contributors did not cite their source.)    In 1757 the Shawnee and Delaware Indians abducted part of Peter's children.   The contributor stated that a letter dated August 11, 1757 from Hanover, in Lancaster County, written to the Governor of Pennsylvania said, "...We hear from Labanon Township, Lancaster County, that on last Friday, four children were carried off by the Indians..."     Another letter is said to have been written on October 1, 1757 that stated, "...The children mentioned of having been carried off from Lebanon Township, belonging to Peter Wampler, that they were going to a meadow for a load of hay; and that the Indians took from the house what they thought most valuable, and destroyed what they could not take away, to a considerable value..."     No names were given for the children abducted.

Anna Barbara died in late 1768 or early 1769, in Lancaster County.

About 1769, Peter married Mrs. Mary Barbara Snither.    We have no information about Mary Barbara Snither, except that she was a widow and had at least one child, Jacob Snither, from her prior marriage.   Jacob was named in both Peter's will and his mother's will.

On June 8, 1792, Peter signed his will in Frederick County, Maryland.   Following is a transcription of that will:
