Rhoda Ann Bridgman was born about 1809, in Wythe County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Franklin Bridgman and his second wife, Rhoda May.
Rhoda Ann's father died in 1820, in Wythe County. Her mother, Rhoda, moved the family to Grainger County, Tennessee, prior to 1823.
Rhoda married Philamon "Philip" Hodge on January 17, 1835, in Grainger County, Tennessee. Various census records show he was born from 1811 to 1822, in Tennessee. We believe he was probably a few years younger than Rhoda Ann.
The 1840 Grainger County, Tennessee census shows Philimon Hodges a male 20-29; one female 30-39 (Rhoda) and one female 10-14 years of age.
The 1850 Grainger County, Tennessee census shows Philemon Hodge, 28, a farmer, born in Tennessee; Anna, 41, born in Virginia and Jane Hodge, 21, born in Tennessee.
The 1860 Grainger County census, dated August 11, 1860, shows Phillip Hodge, 49, farmer, $453 personal property, TN; Roda Ann, 44, VA; and Jane Bridgman, 28, domestic, TN. At this time we do not know the identity of Jane Bridgman. She is probably the same female listed as Jane Hodge on the 1850 census.
Rhoda and Philamon had no children.
