Sarah "Sally" Butler was born about 1782, in Fauquier County, Virginia, the daughter of Spencer Butler and Elizabeth (last name unknown).
Sally moved with her family to Culpeper County, Virginia about 1784.
Sally married James Grimsley in 1817, probably in Culpeper County.
Sally Grimsley was named in her father's will, dated July 20, 1818, to receive five dollars.
The 1830 Culpeper County census shows W. B. Grimsley, a male 30-39; two males 5-9; two males under 5; one female 30-39; one female 10-14; two females 5-9 and one female under the age of 5 years.
Census indicates James and Sally had at least eight children. We have record of only three.
