Sarah Rebecca Abel was born 1821, in Greene County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Jonathan Abel and Catherine Cleaver.
Sarah married David D. Paxton on November 3, 1841 in Greene County. David Paxton was born 1823, in Greene County.
Census indicates that the couple moved to Indiana, probably Johnson County, where two of their children were born.
The family moved to Keokuk County, Iowa prior to 1850. The 1850 Keokuk County, Jackson Township, census shows David Paxton, 28, a farmer; Sarah, 29; Elizabeth, 5 and Nathan, 2 years old.
The 1856 Keokuk County Special Census, Jackson Township, shows David Paxton, 33, farmer; Sarah, 36; Elizabeth, 11; Nathan, 8; Harriet, 5 and John H., 2 years old.
The 1860 Keokuk County, Richland Township census shows David Paxton, 40, teamster, $300 personal property; Sarah, 42; Elizabeth, 16; Nathan, 13; Harriet, 10; John H., 9; Matilda C., 4; and Margret, 8 months old. Margaret died prior to the 1870 census.
The 1870 Keokuk County, Richland Township census shows David Faxon, 45, farmer, $2000 real property, $774 personal property; Sarah, 53; Elisabeth, 23; Nathan, 21; Harriet, 19; John H., 15; Tilda, 14; William W., 7; and Cordelia, 4 years old.
The 1880 Keokuk County, Lancaster Township census shows Dave Paxton, 57, farmer; Sarah, 62, wife; John H., 25, son; Tilda, 22, daughter; Willie, 16, son; and Dela, 14, daughter. Living beside them was Sarah's sister and nephew, Louis Ingle, 30, single, laborer; and Lizabeth Ingle, 68, mother, widow.
The 1885 Keokuk County, Special Census, Lancaster Township, shows David Paxton, 65, farmer; Sarah, 67; John, 30; Wm, 19; and Delia, 17 years old. Living beside them was their son, Nathan and his family. The census shows Nathan Paxton, 36, farmer; Mary A., 24; Stella, 5; Walker, 4; and Oscar, 2 years of age.
David died November 4, 1889, in Keokuk County. Sarah died there on October 18, 1893. They are buried in Ollie Cemetery, near Ollie, in Keokuk County.
