Charles Sherman Harmon was born April 2, 1883, near Cave City, in Independence County, Arkansas, the son of James Louis Harmon and Martha Jane Crow.
Sherman's family moved to near Tilly, in Pope County, Arkansas, about 1890. Sherman grew up in Pope County. The 1900 Pope County census shows the John Cossey family living next door to Sherman's sister Almeda Walker and her family, and only one farm away from Sherman's family.
Sherman married Allie Cossey on April 15, 1909, in Searcy County, Arkansas. Allie Cossey was born December 25, 1890, in Arkansas, the daughter of John Cossey and Lucinda (last name unknown). John Cossey, born about 1851, and his wife Lucinda, born about 1853, had several children including Azlena, born 1873; James, born 1879; Frank, born 1883; Dora, born 1886; Allie, born 1890; Minnie, born 1892; and Becka, born 1895.
Sherman and Allie settled near Tilly in Smyrna Township of Pope County to begin their family. Sherman was a farmer. The family appears on the 1910 Pope County census.
Allie died April 18, 1926 and is buried in Witts Springs Cemetery at Witts Springs, Arkansas. Allie and Sherman had four children. Their youngest child was not yet three years old when Allie died.
Sherman married Effie Emerson on September 9, 1927, in Van Buren County, Arkansas. Effie Emerson was born September 1896, in Arkansas.
Effie and Sherman continued living near Tilly, where their two children were born. The 1930 Pope County, Arkansas, census, Smyrna Township, shows SHerman Harmon, a farmer who owned his farm, Effie, 30; Roy, 18; Agness, 16; Connie, 9; and Tempie, 7 years old. Living next door was Sherman's brother Willie Harmon and his family.
Sherman died December 19, 1963 and is buried in Witts Spring Cemetery.
Effie later married Marland Reid. They lived at Morrilton in Conway County, Arkansas for a time, then moved to Russellville, in Pope County. Marland died prior to Effie's death in 1980. Effie is buried in Witts Spring Cemetery.
