Stephen Maxey was born about 1797, in Franklin County, Virginia, the son of Hail Maxey and Dicey Craighead.
Stephen's family moved to Georgia about 1800, settling in Oglethorpe County.
Stephen married Nancy Stephenson on June 16, 1820, in Williamson County, Tennessee.
Stephen and Nancy raised their children in Obion County, Tennessee. Stephen died there between 1845 and 1850.
