Sylvester Hagens was born January 1, 1900, in Missouri, the son of John Wesley Hagens and Margaret M. Massey.
Sylvester's family moved to Muscatine County, Iowa prior to 1908. They appear on the 1910 and 1920 Muscatine County census in Bloomington Township.
Sylvester married Elva Rebecca "Marie" Robertson.
Sylvester died June 19, 1931.
