William Butler

(Note: Much of the following information is from the book History of Pike County, Missouri.)

William Butler was born abt 1762, in Fauquier County, Virginia.  He was the son of William Butler and Mary (last name unknown).

"History of Pike County, Missouri" states that William was a Revolutionary War soldier.   He served as a Private in the Company of Capt. White, in the regiment of Col. Slaughter, in the Virginia line for six months.

William married Katrina Elizabeth Jacoby about 1785, in Virginia.   Katrina Jacoby was born July 17, 1765, the daughter of Francis Lucas Jacoby and Joanna Frederica Lotspeich.

William migrated with his family to Bourbon County, Kentucky prior to 1790.

The 1810 Bourbon County, Kentucky census shows William Butler, a male 45 & over; three males 16-25; three males 10-15; three males under 10; one female 45 & over; one female 10-15 and one female under 10 years old.

William's wife, Katrina, died about 1818, in Bourbon County, Kentucky.

William married Polly (last name unknown) about 1818, soon after the death of Katrina.

History of Pike County, Missouri relates that William moved his family to Lincoln County, Missouri in 1824.

William applied for his Revolutionary War pension on November 4, 1833, at the age of 77, in Lincoln County, Missouri.    He stated that he lived in Culpeper County, Virginia when he enlisted and that he substituted for Joseph Butler of Fauquier County, Virginia.    He further stated that he married about 3 years after the war and moved to Bourbon County, Kentucky, where he lived 40 years, and then moved to Lincoln County, Missouri.

On January 9, 1834, William was placed on the Missouri pension roll at $20 per year.

William's wife, Polly, died prior to 1840, in Lincoln County.

The 1840 Lincoln County census shows William Butler, a male 80-89; one male 20-29; one male 15-19; two males 10-14 and one female 30-39 years old.   William was shown to be a 84 year old military veteran.

William died August 10, 1843, in Lincoln County, Missouri.
