William King

William King was born about 1800 in Tennessee.     (Various census records show he was born from about 1790 to about 1805.)      William married Sarah (last name unknown), who was born about 1805, in South Carolina according to most census records.

The family was shown on the 1840 Blount County, Alabama census with seven children.      The census shows William King, a male 30-40; one female (Sarah) 30-40; one male 10-15; one male 5-10; one female 15-20; one female 10-15; two females 5-10 and one female under the age of 5.

By 1850 the family had increased in size to eleven children.     The 1850 Blount County census shows William King, 45, a farmer; Sarah, 44; Maryan, 27; Margeran, 25; Calbe, 21, a farmer; James, 18, a farmer; Lucretia, 17; Elizabeth, 14; Nancy, 12; Jackson, 10; Pinckny, 5; Manila, 4; and Andrew, 1 year old.

The 1860 Blount County census shows William, 70, a farmer; Sarah, 60; Mary I., 30; Margaret, 29; Leroy, 26, a day laborer; Lucretia, 21; Elizabeth, 19; Nancy, 18; Jackson, 17; Pickens, 16; Manila, 14; Andrew, 11; William, 6 years of age.     (Notice that William got 25 years older between 1850 and 1860!)

The 1870 Blount County census shows William, 73, a farmer; Sarah, 66; M., 44; Morgmera, 40; L., 30; Nancy, 20; M. C., 20.     (Notice that William only got 3 years older between 1860 and 1870.)      Their sons Caleb and Pinkney and their families were listed as living on either side of William on the 1870 census.

The 1880 Blount County census shows William, 75, a farmer; Sarah, 65; Margaret, 48; Nancy 36; Thomas, 21 and a granddaughter, Emma, 2 years old.      (Notice that William only got 2 years older between 1870 and 1880 and Sarah actually got a year younger during that time!)       Caleb and his family were still living beside William in 1880.

The King family lived very near the William Branham family at various times through the years.

(Note: Because the birth dates of William, Sarah and the children vary so widely from census to census, we have guessed at the birth dates.)
