(I have not researched the Sims family, but am sharing the information I have regarding this family.)
William J. Sims was born January 1843, in Georgia. Census indicates his father was born in South Carolina and his mother in Georgia.
William Sims married Alice F. (last name unknown) about 1866, probably in Georgia. Alice was born about 1844 in Georgia. Census indicates her father was born in Maryland and her mother in Georgia.
William moved his family to Arkansas prior to 1873. He settled in Conway County, Arkansas prior to 1880.
The 1880 Conway County census, Lick Mountain Township, shows William J. Sims, head, 38, a farmer; Alice F., wife, 37; Cynthia O., daughter, 12; Emily Jane, daughter, 10; Mary E., daughter, 8; John Sterling, son, 6; Robert Lee, son, 4; and William T., son, 2 years old.
Alice died between August 1883 and late 1887 in Conway County. She is probably buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Center Ridge in Conway County.
William married Mary M. Reed on January 29, 1888, in Conway County. Mary Reed was born October 1845, in Tennessee. This was a second marriage for Mary. We are unsure of her maiden name.
The 1900 Conway County census, Lick Mountain Township, shows William Sims, 57, born January 1843, married twice, married 11 years, a farmer who owned his farm; Mary M., wife, 54, born October 1845, married 2 time, married 11 years, had given birth to 7 children, 5 children still living; Maggie Reed, step-daughter, 22, born September 1877, in Arkansas; and Charley Reed, step-son, 17, born July 1882, in Arkansas.
The 1910 Conway County census, Lick Mountain Township, shows William J. Sims, 67, married 2 times, married 21 years, a farmer who owned his farm; Mary M., wife, 65, married 2 time, married 21 years, had given birth to 7 children, 5 children still living; and Maggie Reed, step-daughter, 28, single. Living next door was his son, John Sims and his family. William's daughter, Alice, was living with her brother John. Living on the other side of William was his step-son, Tom Reed and his family. (Tom is listed as Charley on the 1900 census.)
Mary died in 1910 and is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Center Ridge, in Conway County.
The 1920 Conway County census, Lick Mountain Township, shows W. J. Sims, 77, widowed, owned his farm free of mortgage; and Alice, daughter, 34, single.
William died August 7, 1924, in Conway County. He is probably buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. William and Mary had no children together.
