Zachariah James Horton was born February 4, 1854, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the son of James Henry Horton and Lydia Youngblood.
Zach married Mollie Caldonia Kendrick on November 5, 1874, in Wayne County. Mollie was born November 28, 1857, the daughter of William P. Kendrick and Elizabeth Biffle.
Zach died February 10, 1935, in Wayne County. Mollie died there in 1942. They are buried in the Horton Cemetery located on a hill north of and behind the old Horton-Merriman house on upper Indian Creek, at Three Churches, in Wayne County. Two of their children are buried there with Zach and Mollie.
