Anna Eliza Bridgman

 Anna Eliza Bridgman was born February 2, 1848, in Wayne County, Kentucky, the daughter of William Calvin Bridgman and Matilda Prock.

Anna married James E. Carter on March 21, 1867, in Wayne County, Kentucky.  James Carter was born April 10, 1847, in Tennessee, the son of Edmon B. Carter and Cyrena Evaline Bean.

Edmon Carter was born June 24, 1824, in Tennessee and died between 1881 and 1900.  He married Evaline Bean in 1846, in Tennessee.  Evaline Bean was born 1822, in Tennessee and died 1871-1879, in Kentucky.  They appear on the 1850 Wayne County, Kentucky; 1860 Clinton County, Kentucky and 1870 Fentress County, Tennessee ceusus.  Edmon married Drucilla ____ prior to 1880.  Drucilla was born July 1829, in Kentucky.  Edmon and Drucilla appear on the 1880 Metcalfe County, Kentucky census.  Drucilla appears on the 1900 Shelby County, Iowa census living with her niece Mary E. Rank and family.   Edmon and Evaline's children included: (1) James Earl Carter, b. 1847; (2) William Russell Carter, b. 1848; (3) Luverna Carter, b. 1850; m. James F. Bridgman; (4) Elizabeth "Bettie" Carter, b. 1852; m. (unknown), then m. William O. Bridgman (2nd wife); (5) Mary F. Carter, b. 1854; m. William O. Bridgman (1st wife); (6) Darcas Carter, b. 1858; (7) Malissa Jane Carter, b. 1859 and (8) Sarah E. Carter, b. 1862.

The 1870 Wayne County census shows James E Carter, 23, farmer, $110 personal property; Ann E., 24; Charles A., 2 and Marcus, 9 months old, born in August.  Living with the family at the time was William R. Carter, 31, farm laborer and Cyrena Carter, 19 years old.   Anna's parents and siblings were living nearby.

The 1880 Wayne County census shows James E. Carter, 33, farmer; Annie L., 32, wife; Charly A., 12, son; Marcus A., 10, son; Matilda E., 7, daughter; Lina Etta, 5, daughter; Abraham L., 3, son; and Ida B., 1, daughter. 

Anna was named in her father's will, dated August 5, 1896.

The 1900 Wayne County census shows James E. Carter, born Apr 1847, 53, married 32 years, a farmer who owned his farm; Anna E., wife, born Feb 1848, 52, had given birth to 9 children, 8 children were still living; Linnie E., daughter, born Mar 1874, 26, single; Ida B., daughter, born May 1879, 21; John E. H., son, born Jan 1882, 18; Foster C., son, born June 1884, 15 and Lillie, daughter, born Nov 1887, 12 years old. 

James died May 31, 1909, in Wayne County. 

The 1920 Wayne County census shows Anna living with her son John and his family in Elk Creek Township of Wayne County.  The census shows John Carter, 37, farmer; Mattie, wife, 27; Herbert, son, 9; Earl, son, 7; Clyde, son, 6 and Hubert, son, 4 years old.  Living with the family was John's sister, Vernie Carter, 17 and his mother, Annie Carter, 72, widow.

Anna died in Wayne County on December 31, 1921.

Oct 5,1920; dau. of  Tillman Morgan (b. Mar 1836, Wayne Co, KY; d. Mar 1915, Wayne Co) and Cyrene Jane Upchurch (b. June 1843, Wayne Co, KY; d. Aug 1909, Wayne Co).  Family lived in Wayne Co, KY.  The 1910 census shows Dollie had given birth to 12 children, 8 children were living at that time.  Children included: (1) Bessie B. Carter, b. 1892; (2) Franklin Carter, b. 1894; (3) Albert Carter, b. 1895; (4) Jessie J. Carter, b. 1896; (5) Ewel C. Carter, b. 1898; (6) Linza Lincoln Carter, b. 1899; (7) Sally Carter, b. 1901 and (8) Mollie Carter, b. 1906

3. Matilda E. Carter, b. Nov 1872, Wayne Co, KY

4. Lennie Etta Carter, b. Mar 1, 1874, Wayne Co, KY; d. Sept 26, 1943, Wayne Co; m. Constant Benjamin Rains on July 5, 1905, Wayne Co.  Con Rains, b. Apr 17, 1875, KY; d. Mar 21, 1953; son of Benjamin H. Rains and his second wife, Cyrena Catherine Roberts.   Family lived in Wayne Co, KY.   Children included: (1) Estel L. Rains, b. 1906; (2) Everett D. Rains, b. 1907; (3) Elsie M. Rains, b. 1909; (4) Anna L. Rains, b. 1912 and (5) Ella B. Rains, b. 1914

5. Abraham Lincoln Carter, b. Sept 16, 1876, Wayne Co, KY; d. Apr 23, 1943, Wayne Co; m. Florence Rains on Dec 4, 1896, Wayne Co.  Florence Rains, b. May 14, 1874, Wayne Co; d. July 30, 1909, Wayne Co; dau. of Richard Rains and Harriet Rogers.   Abram m. Juanita Rains in 1909, soon after the death of his wife Florence.  Florence and Juanita were sisters.  Juanita Rains, b. Sept 7, 1889, Wayne Co, KY; d. April 23, 1916; dau. of Richard Rains and Harriet Rogers.   Abram and Florence's children included: (1) Anna E. Carter, b. Aug 1898; (2) Flora Jane Carter, b. Sept 1900; (3) Bonnie Carter, b. Mar 1902; (4) Lonzo "Lonnie" Carter, b. Mar 1902; (5) Laura Carter, b. 1905; (6) Ollie Carter, b. 1908 and (7) Etta Carter, b. July 1909.  Abram and Juanita's children included: (1) Montie Richard Carter, b. Oct 1910 and (2) Horace Carter, b. 1913

Oct 11, 1980, FL; dau. of George Cundiff Dodson and Clara Elizabeth Morrow.  Children included: (1) Herbert Marshall Carter, b. 1910; (2) Earl Carter, b. 1913; (3) Clyde Carter, b. 1914 and (4) Hubert Carter, b. 1916

8. Foster C. Carter, b. June 1884, Wayne Co, KY; m. Bertha ____.  Family was in Wayne Co, KY in 1910.  Children included: (1) Ina Carter, b. 1909 and (2) Clara Carter, b. 1910

9. Lillie Carter, b. Nov 1887, Wayne Co, KY; m. Peter E. Marsh, b. Apr 6, 1886, Wayne Co, KY; d. bet 1921-1929; son of William Marsh and Sarah Adaline "Addie" L. Simpson.  Family appears in Wayne Co, KY in 1910 and 1920.  Lillie and her two youngest children were lodging in the city of Indianapolis, IN in 1930.  Lillie was working in a bakery and listed as a widow.  Their children included: (1) Martha P. Marsh, b. 1906; (2) Hulbert H. Marsh, b. 1908; (3) Anna L. Marsh, b. 1910; (4) Cecil L. Marsh, b. 1913; (5) Norman E. Marsh, b. 1915 and (6) Lawrence J. Marsh, b. 1917
