Edward P. Cargill

Edward P. Cargill was born about 1850, in Arkansas, the son of Thomas H. Cargill and Mary Palmer. (Edward does not appear on the 1850 census.  He was listed as 11 years of age on the 1860 census, shown to be born February 1855 on the 1900 census and was listed as 54 on the 1910 census, which would make him born about 1856.)

The Cargill family was on the 1850 Pulaski County, Arkansas census.   Prior to 1859 the family moved to Conway County, Arkansas.

Edward's mother, Mary, died October 1859.   The 1860 Conway County census, Walker Township, shows 11 year old Edward with his widowed father and siblings. 

After the death of Edward's father prior to 1870, his children scattered.   Edward, age 19, was living with a family in Looney Township of Polk County, Missouri in 1870.   His brother John F. Cargile had married and settled in Polk County prior to 1870.      

The 1880 Conway County census shows Edward living with the family of Daniel Voss in Gregory Township.   Edward was working as a farm laborer.   The census shows Daniel Voss, 54, farmer, born in Tennessee; Mary J., wife, 43, born in Tennessee; Izorah C., daughter, 17, born in Arkansas; Cicero, son, 4, born in Arkansas; Elizabeth S. Cooke, mother-in-law, 63, born in Tennessee and E. P. Cargil, 27, farm laborer, born in Arkansas.

Edward married (first) Izora C. Voss on December 19, 1880, in Conway County. Izora Voss was born about 1862, in Arkansas, the daughter of Daniel Voss and Mary J. Cooke.

Edward and Izora had at least one child. We believe Izora died before February 1887.

Edward married (second) Lillie F. Reynolds on February 13, 1887, in Conway County. Lillie Reynolds was born October 1867, in Arkansas, the daughter of Wyley E. Reynolds and Sarah Ann Turner.

The 1880 Pope County, Arkansas census, Valley Township, shows Wyley E. Reynolds, 43, a farmer, born in Tennessee; Sarah A., wife, 38, born in Tennessee; Tennessee B., daughter, 18, born in Arkansas; William J., son, 13, born in Arkansas; Lilley F., daughter, 11, born in Arkansas; Beckey A. K., daughter, 9, born in Arkansas; Steven J., son, 6, born in Arkansas and John T., son, 4, born in Arkansas.

The 1900 Conway County census, Gregory Township, shows Edward P. Cargile, 45, born February 1855, married 13 years, a farmer who owned his farm; Lilly, wife, 32, born October 1867, married 13 years, had given birth to 7 children, 6 children were still living; John, son, 15, born October 1884; Cornelius, son, 12, born August 1887; Louis, son, 10, born July 1889; George, son, 8, born August 1891; Lular, daughter, 5, born August 1894; Sameul, son, 4, born March 1896; Thomas, son, 2, born March 1898 and Berval, son, 2 months, born March 1900. (Note: The 1900 census indicates Lillie had only 6 living children, but 8 children are listed on the census. Either the second child, Cornelius, was the son of Edward's first wife, Izora, and the date of birth on the census is incorrect or the number of living children on the census is incorrect. We will list Cornelius as being the son of Lillie at this time.)

Lillie died between 1903 and 1907. She may have died during, or soon after, child birth with their last child.

Edward then married (third) Mrs. Rebecca J. (Nichols) Michau, who was born about 1863, in Alabama according to census.

 The 1910 Conway County census, Washington Township, shows the couple living near Solgohachia on the Hattieville Road. The census shows Ed P. Cargile, 54, married 2 times, married 3 years; Rebecka J., wife, 47, married 2 times, married 3 years, had given birth to 5 children, 3 children still living, born in Alabama; George, son, 17; Lula A., daughter, 15; Sam, son, 12; Tom, son, 10; Sula, daughter, 7 and Lottie Michau, step-daughter, 15, born in Arkansas, father born in South Carolina, mother born in Alabama.

Edward died April 18, 1915, in Perry County, Arkansas, according to some researchers.
