Edward Pearson Cargile was born about 1808, in Kentucky, the son of John Cargill, Jr. and Nancy Elizabeth Lewis.
Edward married Mary (last name unknown) in Kentucky. Mary was born about 1808, in Kentucky.
Edward and Mary moved to Arkansas with the other Cargile families about 1837. The family appears on the 1840 Conway County, Arkansas census, in Hardin Township near Greenbrier (in present day Faulkner County). The census shows one male 30-40; one male 20-30; one male 15-20; one male 10-15; two males 5-10; one male under 5; one female 40-50; one female 30-40; one female 5-10; and two females under 5. We are unsure of the identity of several of these people, but feel they are family members.
The 1850 Conway County census shows the family in Benton Township, near Quitman. The census shows E. P., 42, a farmer; Mary, 42; James, 17, born in Kentucky; John, 14, born in Kentucky; Nancy, 12, born in Arkansas; Jessie, 11, born in Arkansas; Pelina, 8, born in Arkansas; Daniel, 6, born in Arkansas; and Louisa, 4, born in Arkansas. Edward was living next to his brother Robert. Several other Cargile family members were living in the same area.
The 1860 Conway County census shows the family in Union Township. The census shows Edward, 52; Mary, 52; Palina, 17; David, 15; and Louisa, 14. Living with them is Israel Moore, 30, a laborer, born in Kentucky. Israel Moore would later marry Rachael McClure, daughter of Stephen McClure. Edward is shown to have real property valued at $350.

Cargile, b. abt 1859, Conway Co, AR; Mary Cargile, b. abt 1863, AR; and Nancy Lavinia Cargile, b. May 1, 1867, Conway Co, AR. John was not listed on the 1870 census. Rebecca remarried in 1878 in Van Buren Co, AR. The 1880 Van Buren Co. census shows another child: Elizabeth Cargile, b. abt 1873, AR.
