Eleanor Jane Tipton

Eleanor Jane Tipton was born March 10, 1840, in Arkansas, the daughter of Benjamin Tipton and Nancy Caroline Young.

Eleanor (her headstone shows Elender) married James Risner about 1857, in Arkansas. James Risner was born about 1833, in Arkansas.

The 1860 Van Buren County, Arkansas census, Turkey Creek Township, shows James Risner, 26, a farmer, $200 personal property; Eleanor J., 20; Lewany, 2; and Isabella, 1 year old.

James and Eleanor had three children. James Risner died about 1863 during the Civil War.

Eleanor then married James Knox Polk Teague about 1865, in Arkansas. James Teague was born about 1840, in Alabama, the son of Silas Joshua Teague.

The 1870 Searcy County, Arkansas census, Locust Grove Township, shows James Teag, 30, a farmer, personal property valued at $300; Jane, 30; Silas A., 4; Nancy, 2; Lewary J., 6 months old; Lewany Risner, 12; Mary J. Risner, 10; and Leucinda J. Risner, 8 years old.

James and Eleanor had three children. James Teague died prior to the 1880 census.

The 1880 Stone County, Arkansas census, Sylamore Township, shows Jane Teague, head of the household, a widow, 39, born in Arkansas, father born in North Carolina, mother born in Tennessee; Lucinda J. Risner, daughter, 18; Silas Teague, son, 13; Nancy Teague, daughter, 11; and Laura J. Teague, daughter, 7 years old. Living with the family and working on the farm was Wyley Risner, cousin, 21, born in Arkansas.

Eleanor married her third husband, Sanford Stewart McCarley, about 1886. Stewart McCarley was born April 1830, in Georgia, according to census.

The 1900 Van Buren County, Arkansas census, Wheeler Township, shows Stewart McCarley, 70, born April 1830, in Georgia, father and mother both born in North Carolina, married 14 years, a farmer who owned his farm; and Eleanor J., wife, 60, born March 1840, in Arkansas, father and mother both born in North Carolina, married 14 years, had given birth to 5 children, 4 children still living.

Eleanor died January 5, 1902, in Van Buren County. She is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, near Rupert, in Van Buren County.
