Georgia Ettamae McClure was born February 28, 1900, near El Paso, in White County, Arkansas, the daughter of Dora Bannon McClure and Eliza J. Jones. She was called "Georgie".
Georgie was just 13 years old when her mother died in 1913.
Georgie married James E. "Jimmy" Drake on September 13, 1919, at Formosa, in Van Buren County, Arkansas. The marriage is recorded in Van Buren County Marriage Book 12, page 130. Jimmy Drake, born December 16, 1897, at Culpepper, in Van Buren County, was the son of James B. Drake and his 2nd wife, Catherine Louisa Eades.
James B. Drake was born March 8, 1857, in Kentucky and died January 1, 1916, in Conway County, Arkansas. James had been married prior to this marriage to Louisa. He and his 1st wife, name unknown, had a son, David S. Drake, born December 1885, in Arkansas. David appears on the 1900 Van Buren County census with his father. We have no other information concerning David. We were unable to locate him after the 1900 census.
James B. Drake's 2nd wife, Louisa Eades was born about 1861, in Van Buren County and died March 9, 1900, in Conway County, in childbirth with their second child. Louisa was the daughter of Jacob Allen Eades (b. 1828, TN; d. 1918, Van Buren Co; bur. Brickey Cem, Van Buren Co) and Mary A. "Polly" Brickey (b. 1831, AR; d. 1898, Van Buren Co; bur. Brickey Cem, Van Buren Co). Louisa Eades was a sister to Parity Catherine "Rita" Eades, who married John Fredrick Jordon. Rita was the mother of Major Harrison Jordon, who married Georgie's sister, Julie McClure. Both James and Louisa (Eades) Drake are buried in Middleton Cemetery, in Conway County.
Jimmy Drake was only two years old when his mother died in 1900, giving birth to Jimmy's brother. Jimmy's father, who was unprepared to raise a newborn and a two year old, alone, gave his two sons over to his wife's sister, Cynthia Elizabeth Eades Thompson, and her husband to raise. Jimmy and his younger brother, Willie, appear on the 1900 and 1910 Van Buren County census living with Cynthia and her husband, William Thompson. William Thompson was born February 1859, in Arkansas. Cynthia Elizabeth Eades was born May 17, 1866, in Van Buren County and died September 14, 1932. Cynthia was the daughter of Jacob Allen Eades and Mary A. "Polly" Brickey. William and Cynthia Thompson had no children of their own.
After Jimmy and Georgie married in 1919, they continued to live with the Thompson family for a short time. The 1920 Van Buren County census shows William Thompson, 62, a farmer; Cyntha E., wife, 56; William J. Drake, nephew, 19, single; James E. Drake, nephew, 22, married, a laborer; James Eades, brother-in-law, 54, widowed and Georgia Drake, niece, 20, married.
The 1930 Van Buren County census shows Jimmy and Georgie in their own house. The census shows James Drake, 32, a farmer; Georgia, wife, 31; David, son, 8 and Luther, son, 6 years old. Living next door was Georgie's brother Charley McClure and his family. Living nearby was Georgie's sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Elmer Smith, and their family.
Jimmy worked for many years at a cotton gin at Formosa. He and Georgie raised their family at Formosa.
Jimmy died May 22, 1968, and is buried in Halbrook Cemetery, in Conway County. Georgie died January 20, 1981, at Morrilton, in Conway County. She is buried in Halbrook Cemetery beside her husband.
